Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces is a type of braces made of glass-like material that was developed by NASA. Many celebrities wear have worn this type of braces. The main advantage of having ceramic braces is that is is hardly visible. Your family would not even notice you have them on. The reason for this is that these braces blend with the color of the teeth, in contrast to metal ones which really makes the smile metallic. One more thing, these braces are very strong and durable and the added touch to this, these do not stain.

Here is the comprehensive advantages and disadvantages of ceramic braces.

Compared to other types of braces, ceramic braces are less visible. These do not stain either. It should be noted that the braces do not stain but the ties do. Ties are those things that attach the wore to the braces. The good thing about this is it can be replaced.

Ceramic braces are more expensive than the traditional one.

Braces made from ceramics can be brittle. Though durable, but it can lead to breakage on during instances when the wearer is into contact sports. In comparison to plastic braces, ceramic ones are less prone to wear.

Braces made from ceramic are harder than enamel, the protective covering of our teeth. There should be care when it gets ion contact with the teeth for it may lead to the wearing off on the teeth. Bite plates, however, can be used to protect the teeth or as corrective tool to attach before having the ceramic braces.

Ceramic braces many be difficult and painful to remove. Because of its hardness, there is the risk that the teeth may be damaged.

Lastly, a person with ceramic braces will have a longer time to finish the treatment. There is a higher tendency for the brace to slide. It needs more force to overcome the frictional resistance made by the ceramic braces.

How to Keep Your Smile even When You have Braces On

It is hard to smile when you have braces. People become self-conscious of the attachments that they have that many times they opt not to smile at all.

Having braces is a big responsibility. In order to take care of your teeth you need to take care of your braces while it is still attached to the teeth. The problem with braces is that there are so many bands, wires and brackets that it is hard to brush and clean one’s teeth.

Aside from this, chewing becomes a hindrance. Food particles can get trapped with the brackets and this is one of the reasons why brushing should be done religiously. If you do not do this, chances are, you will develop tartar and plaque, which is hard to remove. It is then important to follow your orthodontist’s advice on the do’s and dont’s on how to take care of your teeth.

Another reason why you need to maintain the cleanliness of the teeth is due to the fact that your diet has an impact on the yellowing of the teeth. You need to choose the right choice of food. Avoid sticky food for the chances of having lodged food particles become high and this would result to cavities if left untreated. This goes true also for hard food. This food can bend and warp the braces and hamper on the development of your teeth.

If you have the habit to put things in your mouth, let’s say, you like to out pens in your mouth, try to avoid this. Food with high acidic content should also be avoided as it would weaken your teeth’s enamel.

What you need to do is to brush and floss regularly to remove food particle in your teeth.

Choosing the Braces Colors

In the past, braces are thick and huge. Kids who wear them can be bullied and called metal mouth. But that remains in the past now.

Braces now are fashion statements. There are many colors a kid or teenager can choose from. Many people has one concern when they want to sign up for dental brace treatment and that is, if the braces are colored, what colors would make their teeth whiter.

Having the braces in kids’ favorite color lessens the stress a kid gets when he has braces on. In fact, it would make kid more excited to visit the orthodontic to have the braces tweaked or attached.

There are many colors a kid can choose from. A kid must remember that the braces wil remain there of a year or more, so the right color should be chosen.

If a kid does not know which color he should choose, ask the orthodontic for the color wheel to guide him.

When choosing for braces, the color of the teeth should be considered. Each person has different shades of teeth. This is partially due to the diet one has.

The rule of the thumb is, the darker the shade of the braces, the paler teeth would look whiter. As a matter of fact, many people chose to have black braces. There are two reasons why this is perhaps the most popular choice for brace color- aside from the fact that it is the best contrast for teeth, black braces also make the teeth look bigger.

If black is too much, dark blue or maroon can be a better choice.

Invisible or silver braces would look good on people with yellowish teeth to balance the color of the teeth.

Yellow braces must be avoided at all times. Yellow would only make yellowish teeth look yellower.

Blue braces would also look good on almost every one.

Many kids are afraid to visit their dental hygienists. They do not want to have their teeth checked. This condition is called dental anxiety. Children and adults alike are apprehensive to accept treatment. Anxiety, fear and worry are among the feelings that people who experience this condition have. It may come from past traumatic experience they may have with other dentists.

In other cases, it can develop out of nowhere, like in any other kind of phobia. These reasons may be one of those why people put off their going to the dentist the last minute. In situations such as these, the conditions are already severe.

There are several physical signs that a patient is experiencing dental stress. These may include feeling tense before a visit, nervousness in the clinic and they react when they see dental apparatus. Among kids, the symptoms will include crying and physical agitation in addition to the ones already motioned.

For dental hygienists, they may want to ask a patient a series of questions to determine if the patient having distress and determine the source of the anxiety.

Many patient have low tolerance f pain, the dentist may inject a dose of anaesthesia. This would alleviate the patient from extreme pain during extraction or insertion of braces. More often dentist want patients to calm down before surgery of extraction.

Different Kinds of Bites

It is important that you need to be educated in the types of bites when you want o have braces and other types of orthodontics attached to your mouth. In the orthodontics’ point of view, a bite is the way the teeth are fitted together. On the other hand, malocclusion is defined as the misalignment of teeth. When we talk about malocclusions, we have three types in terms of the horizontal line.

Class 1

This is a dental condition where the both jaws are aligned, however there are crooked, spaced out teeth and there are teeth that grow below the gum line or above other teeth.

Class 2

This is also called overjet. This means that the upper jaw is more moved forward than the lower jaw. There may be an overbite. This can be remedied by orthodontics and in some severe cases, jaw surgery is needed where the upper jaw is moved backward.

Class 3

This is called underbite or negative overjet, this is the opposite of Class II. The lower jaw is moved forward. Same with Class II, slight cases can be remedied by orthodontics and severe ones by jaw surgery.

The bite types that are in relation to the vertical lines, there are also three.

Crossbite

Crossbites occur when the bottom teeth do not meet correctly with the top teeth. It is called unilateral posterior crossbite when the teeth fall inside the mouth. It is called bilateral crossbite when the teeth do not meet with the top on the sides.

Open Bite

Those with open bites only have a few teeth meeting one another. When they chew, you can actually see the insides of their mouth even if they would close the mouth with their teeth.

Deep Bite

Deep Bites occur when the upper teeth overlap the lower teeth. When a person with a deep bite chews there is little visibility of the lower teeth.

The Difference Between Invisalign and Braces

If we compare orthodontics today and in the past, we can say that there are so many choices and options patients now than what it used to be. We can no longer say metal mouth to a person with braces. There is less bullying and teasing to kids who have braces. True enough, many teenagers now opt to have their teeth straightened. They don’t have to be dragged over to the dental hygienist’s office.

Gone are the traditional braces where metal plates are attached to the teeth and an arch wire is run through the bracket. An orthodontist would regularly tweak it to align it. In most cases this is still the most effective way to align one’s teeth

There is an alternative to this technique using clear aligners. Patients are advised to wear the series of trays. In due time, it can straighten and align teeth and overbites. While the braces are quite visible, Invisalign are clear and hardly visibly unless you take a closer look at it. Also, you can easily remove the tray whenever you floss or brush your teeth as opposed to the metal braces where flossing may be difficult. In comparison to the metal braces, Invisalign can be more expensive but the price you will pay will be more. In order to understand more of Invisalign, here are the pros and cons.

Invisalign is almost invisible to the eye. Wearing it can be easy because few people may notice it as well as cleaning your teeth will be easy as well as you may experience less pain for there are no wires poking inside tour mouth. Braces, in the other hand, may be easy on the pocket as well as many orthodontists are more confident with this technique.

When a kid has an underbite or overbite, most often, orthodontists would recommend that they wear either braces or retainers. These tools will help you straighten your teeth.

Dental Braces 101

When a kid has an underbite or overbite, most often, orthodontists would recommend that they wear either braces or retainers. These tools will help you straighten your teeth. The whole difference between braces and retainers is braces are made for long term treatment. This means braces are made so teeth can be aligned in the proper way. Retainers, on the other hand, are worn after one is done with braces so that teeth are kept straightened.

The way braces are effective is due to the fact that pressure created by the braces force the teeth to slowly move to its proper place. Because of the slow movement, the tooth socket slowly reabsorbs the pressure, thus changing the shape of the socket too.

When you want to have braces, questions always arise. Here are the common

questions many people ask about braces.

Will Braces Cause Pain?

Even though you are only moving your teeth and teeth socket in a slow motion, pain cannot be avoided. There will be times when your mouth will be sore from this. In such cases, take some over-the counter pain reliever to soothe the pain away. If pain cannot be taken anymore, better check with your orthodontist to lessen the impact of the pain.

Can I Continue to Play Sports While Wearing Braces?

Just because you have braces should not stop you from playing your favourite sports. Though there may be instances that your mouth may be injured, the best way to avoid this incident is to wear a special mouthpiece that can help protect tissues in your mouth.

How Long Will I Have to Wear Braces?

It really depends on how misaligned your teeth are. On the average, most braces remain in place for a year to three years. After you have removed your braces, many wear retainers for six months.

Malocclusion is a dental condition when teeth os crooked, misaligned, an underbite and overbite. The solution to this condition is to go to the orthodontist and get a brace.

Dental Braces for Kids

The solution for misaligned teeth is to go to the orthodontist and get a brace. However, there is a negative impact when a child wears braces, especially to school. They may be teased as “metal mouth”. But nowadays braces are made with different materials. It is now gentler for kids.

Metal Braces

Metal braces are still in the market for the main reasons that it is both durable and the least expensive. But the modern metal braces are a far outcry from the old ones. The one common now have smaller brackets and the wires are also smaller. There are also the self-ligating ones which there are no need for ligatures or the small rubber bands that hold wires and brackets together.

White Braces

White braces are similar to metal braces but are less noticeable because they are almost the same colour as the teeth. This is a bit expensive than the metal ones. These braces can discolour over time, especially ligatures. The material used for this kind of braces is the same as the one used for filings but the wires are still metal.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are those that go behind the teeth. The downside of this type is, this is more expensive. Because it is placed inside, it may hurt the tongue and it may be difficult for kids to speak until they get used to it.

Clear Braces

As its name connotes, these braces are clear and translucent. The reason for this is it is made of monocrystalline sapphire which makes it a bit invisible and more durable. In comparison to the metal braces, this is a bit more expensive

Dental braces are worn when the teeth are running out of alignment or getting crowded or forming into bad shapes. The misalignment of the teeth can happen at any time of our lives and this may call for the need for braces. Many children have problems with the teeth in the early years. Boys usually in their early teenage years develop problems with their teeth and they are to be taken to the dentist for a regular checkup by their parents.

Parents need to be careful about their children and notice constantly if their dentition is shaping into proper alignment. There are many kinds of braces and all of them suit boys of most ages. The first types of dental braces are the metal braces which are the traditional ones. These traditional braces have been in use since a long time and proved to be very durable.

Even though there are much more advanced braces which have been introduced by dental science, metal braces have proved to be very efficient. There have been improvements in metal braces as well, in spite of the introduction of speed braces which don’t use rubber bands like metal braces. Metal braces now introduce smaller brackets and thinner wires which makes the visibility of the braces even lesser.

Invisalign or invisible braces are the most suitable ones for boys. These braces are hardly noticeable and they don’t even hurt when worn. They are easily removable and are known not to create any stains on the teeth like the traditional braces.

Speed braces and invisalign are expensive compared with metal braces. But speed braces are effective enough to speed up the treatment. Speed braces can be useful as they need to be worn only for six to nine months compared with the metal braces which have to be worn for three years.

How Long Do I Have To Wear Braces

Generally this question occurs in the mind of every patient, wearing dental braces. The treatment time varies from person to person and also on the type of braces they are wearing. Some kids may have to wear them for a time ranging between 13 to 24 months and for some it could last up to 30 months. Generally, braces are advised in extreme cases for a time between two to three years. In this period you will be called for regular checkups and adjustments of brackets and probably even changing the elastic and the bands.

Speed braces which have made the treatment even faster can now reduce the treatment time to anything between six to nine months. The answer to the above question depends on the extremity of the dental condition and the type of braces worn. People with fixed braces need to be patient enough to put them on for the considerable amount of time. It is obvious that the process is going to be painful and discomforting but the results after the braces have come off are tremendous and praiseworthy as the teeth is going to last for years to come. To enjoy the long benefits of healthy dentition, it is important to wear braces for the period of time advised by the dentist. In fact not removing them in between can help the treatment speed up at times. After having your braces for such a long time, you may have to wear retainers for sometime as well. The considerable period of time you have to wear your braces is a testing period for you since you have opted to get your teeth straightened. The main worry is about the food getting stuck in the wires and brackets and all other hassles related to it. But it’s worth the effort!
